Classical music fans locally will be pleased next week with the sweet sounds of the Alexander-Soares Duo.

The duo performs Mozart and Beethoven with the piano and violen. The group is comprised of Nicholls professors, violinist James Alexander and pianist Dr. Luciana Soares.

They will showcase their chops at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 in the Mary and Al Danos Theater.

The program will include Mozart and Beethoven, as well as a little-known work by the 19th Century composer, Leopoldo Miguez.

Miguez’s sonata for violin is well-known in Brazil where he’s known as one of the central masterpieces of the violin-piano repertoire.

The work is seldom heard in other countries.

The ensemble is esteemed and has performed all over the United States and even in Brazil.

Soares is an avid chamber musician, recording artist and advocate of new music. In 2012, she joined the distinguished international roster of Steinway Artists.

Alexander enjoys an international career as a teacher, soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. He heads the string program at Nicholls.
