The millage renewal for Recreation District 2,3 has failed.

The 5.0 mills was up for a 10 year renewal. The renewal failed to pass by 56 percent (4,115) of the vote.

Much attention had been brought to this vote in recent months amidst the Board for Rec 2,3 having issues open meeting laws and public records requests.

Local group Rec Reform for Terrebonne sent the following statement to The Times:

“Our residents have spoken and the votes indicate a significant majority are ready to do more with recreation in our parish. The status quo is no longer acceptable so Rec Reform leaders will be reaching out to our civic leaders in order to sit down and map out a new course of action. We already have a large portion of a framework developed and have analyzed new assessment data this week. We thank those who took the time to vote and express an interest in this issue as our community can only be better with the efforts of all who live here. We welcome input from our residents and hope they will stay engaged through this process. It’s time to re-create recreation in Terrebonne Parish!”
