Local coastal advocacy non-profit Restore or Retreat is hosting its annual meeting next week in Thibodaux.

Justin Ehrenwerth, president and CEO of the research non-profit Water Institute of the Gulf, will be the event’s keynote speaker. Ehrenwerth will provide on update on the institute’s status in working with NGOs, industry and universities.

Ehrenwerth said he is excited to speak with the institute’s current partners, and he said he plans on building new relationships devoted to addressing one of Louisiana’s most pressing environmental concerns.

“The issues facing coastal Louisiana, and coastal communities around the world, are daunting,” Ehrenwerth said. We can only meet those challenges by bringing together the extensive scientific and local knowledge we have here in Louisiana and finding new ways of working together toward a common goal.”

ROR Executive Director Simone Maloz said Ehrenwerth’s presence will help foster those relationships needed for the long-term fight for the coast.

“We are looking forward to hearing his unique perspective on how we can elevate the state’s coastal successes and create valuable partnerships to restore and protect our irreplaceable region,” Maloz said.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held on Friday, May 26 at the Bollinger Student Union at Nicholls State University. Registration and a buffet lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., with the program beginning at noon. Reservations are $30 in advance, and those interested in tickets or table sponsorships are asked to call 985-448-4485.
