Sunshine Bridge back open after suicide attempt

The Sunshine Bridge is currently closed on both directions as officers negotiate with the robbery suspect.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to Beauty Town store located on Thibaut Drive in Donaldsonville shortly after noon today in reference to an armed robbery.
Deputies arrived on scene and learned that the suspect, unidentified at this time, robbed a store clerk with a knife and fled the scene.
During the robbery, the victim was punched and was later transported by Acadian Ambulance to a nearby hospital.
While deputies were searching the area for the suspect, they learned that the suspect was walking on the Sunshine Bridge. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office along with law enforcement officials with the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office approached the suspect who then threatened to jump.
