AS CURFEW ENDING DRAWS NEAR, SHERIFF URGES CAUTION
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter is advising a change to the curfew order he issued on Friday, July 12, in response to the approach of Tropical Storm Barry.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, July 13, business owners and their employees will be allowed to travel the streets and highways of Terrebonne Parish for purposes of getting to or leaving from their workplaces.
All other persons will have to wait until 10 a.m.
“Just because the curfew has changed doesn’t mean conditions are improved,” Sheriff Larpenter said. “We are still expecting heavy rain and flooding that may come with it. Additional hazards exist because electricity is off in many places. Some traffic lights are out. Even though I am lifting the curfew, I am asking that everyone stay home unless they have urgent reasons to be out. There can be problems if people come out to sight see.”
In Lafourche Parish, Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle has issued a new curfew for Lafourche Parish residents from 10:00 P.M. July 13 to 6:00 A.M. July 14.
He urges residents to stay off of the roads, if at all possible.
The weather service anticipates strong wind gusts to continue and heavy rains to begin this afternoon through the evening hours.
