The day Thibodaux Regional Medical Center has waited months for is just about here.

The hospital announced this week that its new, state-of-the-art Wellness Center will open next week – a date that will be earmarked as a game-changing moment in the history of local medicine.

The hospital will have a dedication for its new facility tomorrow. The doors will open Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Hospital CEO Greg Stock has said repeatedly throughout the past several months that the wellness center’s opening will mark a monumental day in TRMC’s history.

It’s a multi-million dollar facility that will cover 242,000 square feet and will mark the hospital’s commitment to wellness, prevention and a higher standard of living.

Several dignitaries are expected to attend the dedication, including Governor John Bel Edwards, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy and Congressman Garret Graves, among others.

The day will begin at 11:15 a.m., and it will include tours, a lunch and screenings.

“We look forward to that Wellness Center,” Stock said. “It’s designed to make a statement about the importance of wellness. It’s a great facility. It’s designed to make people feel healthy. It’s a day that we look forward to, and I think the community is excited, as well. I think people are anxious to put everything we’ll be offering to good use.”

The Wellness Center will just be a cherry on top the already-successful medical facility – one that’s grown immensely over the past several decades.

Stock said the center will feature all of the best equipment available, including elevators that both preserve and create energy.

“On the way up, they use energy,” Stock said. “On the way down, they create energy. It’s a really cool thing to see, and it’s one of the many ways that we’ve utilized the latest and best technologies to make our facility as good as it can be.

“Everything in the facility is top of the line,” Stock said.

The hospital CEO said the facility will be loaded with, “bright, happy colors,” and also beautiful artwork. This is being done to create an environment of happiness – a way for locals to celebrate their health and wellness through prevention and education.

“We’ve excelled in clinical care for many years,” Stock said. “Now we’re trying to get upstream. We want to prevent the clinical things that happen as best we can. We want to teach people how to lead happier, healthier lives. We don’t want them to see us when they’re sick. We want them to see us to avoid getting sick. We want to see people at their happiest, proudest moments.”

The Wellness Center will include an Imaging Center, a Sports Medicine Center, a Pain Center, a full-sized pool, a basketball gym and much more.

Trainers will be on-site and each individual member will be able to create a plan tailored to their specific wants and needs.

The Wellness Center will be open to anyone, but membership will be required for access to the building.
