It’s officially cold weather season in southeast Louisiana.
And with that sometimes comes aches, pains and stiffness.
Cut Off native Austin Bouzigard wants to fix all those ailments, and restore locals toward their normal ways of life. He even takes it a step farther — he wants to get locals off pain medication and back to living happy, healthy lives.
Bouzigard is an upstart chiropractor who is practicing in Lockport and Cut Off after receiving training and internships at some of the most prestigious facilities in the country.
Bouzigard studied at LSU, then did his Chiropractor schooling in Atlanta. Before settling back home, he did an internship in Las Vegas where he was able to rub elbows with some of the best in the best in the industry — doctors who work with movie stars, top-tier athletes and countless other celebrities.
Bouzigard said his mission is simple — to use his knowledge and expertise to give back to the community he loves.
He recently joined the Chiropractic Wellness Clinic, practicing in both Cut Off and Lockport. Bouzigard will work with Dr. Nick Arcement and Dr. Lance Baye at the clinic’s two locations.
“I’m passionate about this stuff,” Bouzigard said. “I want to treat the cause of your problems, not the symptoms. I want to get people off their pain medications. Pain medicine masks the symptoms, but over time, a tolerance builds and you have to take more and it becomes a bad cycle. I want to find the cause of the pain, fix it, then keep people doing what they love to do. My job is to enhance the quality of people’s lives here in our community.”
This is a passion project for Bouzigard.
He said he got the itch to get into this line of work after high school, adding that he saw people struggling and wanted to help them get answers.
Austin went to LSU and was a cheerleader during his collegiate years. While doing that, he made many friendships, including with former Tigers Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. An avid golfer, he also has made friendships with guys like Jordan Spieth.
All of those people have a few things in common, according to Bouzigard, a commitment to their techniques and their posture.
Bouzigard said he can help people of all ages at any time in their lives. His services range from general chiropractic care to more in depth and detailed treatments like TMJ, stretching exercises, athletic recovery, colic in newborns and assistance to pregnant mothers in pain.
He can help with all areas of the body and with many conditions, including treating headaches, back pain, herniated discs, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel and many more muscularskeletal issues.
“I can help you from the day you’re born until the day you die, and I take pride in that,” Bouzigard said. “It’s a relationship thing for me. I want to know my clients and really be with them on their journey throughout life. If they’re feeling something that’s uncomfortable, I want them to know that they can come and see me and together, we can make it go away and get life back to normal.”
Bouzigard can do some amazing, innovative things that are new to our community, as well.
Bouzigard is one of just a few people in the country certified in a new, innovative type of scoliosis treatment that can both treat and in many cases even correct the ailment.
Bouzigard has a machine that locals can use which, if used over time, can slowly re-align the spine and get it back to its normal curvature.
He says the process is similar to getting braces, in that you’re slowly using weight and leverage to fix a problem.
“Stress and inflammation are the cause of so many diseases,” Bouzigard said. “And scoliosis really is a factor in people having increased stress in their bodies. This fights this and helps improve your mobility and your ability to live a normal life.”
Bouzigard said his biggest motivation is seeing someone who was once in pain, but is now free from the struggle.
He said those stories never get old and never will.
“I want to help people to heal,” he said. “People get sucked in and get hooked on these pain medications and it’s a bad deal for them. I want to help them out with that. I want to stop them from hurting. Southeast Louisiana is an amazing place. I want people here to be able to live life to the fullest.”
