Lafourche Parish School Superintendent Louis Voiron is taking a medical leave of absence.

The school board held a special meeting tonight to “To consider entering executive session pursuant to LA. R.S. 42:17 (A)(1) to discuss the sick leave status of the Superintendent and take appropriate action.”

At that meeting, it was decided that Voiron would begin his medical leave and that Jarod Martin would be the temporary Acting Superintendent while Voiron recovered. The news of that decision was sent out to school system employees in an email on Friday night.

Sources said they were not aware of the ailment Voiron is suffering from, but the school board is scheduled to meet again on July 31 to determine his status and to finalize plans going forward.

Voiron took over the position at the beginning of this past year when Jo Ann Matthews retired.

Martin is a former principal at Central Lafourche who had recently moved into the School Board office.
