Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is running for re-election.

The Sheriff recently launched his re-election campaign by releasing a written statement announcing his intentions.

Webre has been Lafourche’s sheriff since 1992.

“With great pride and humility I formally announce my candidacy for reelection to the Office of Sheriff for Lafourche Parish,” said Webre. “For nearly three decades my staff and I have had the honor of serving and protecting the many wonderful people of Lafourche with dignity and integrity. Collectively, we have dedicated ourselves to building a competent, compassionate, progressive, professional and respected world-class agency.”

Webre’s bid for re-election has challengers.

Also announced in the race are Thomas Rodrigue and Craig Jaccuzzo.

But Webre said in his release that he believes it’s time for LPSO to continue to move forward – like it has throughout his career as sheriff.

In his announcement, the incumbent said LPSO has transformed itself and has worked diligently to serve the citizens of Lafourche.

“The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has evolved into a modern ‘cutting-edge’ law enforcement agency that embraces all facets of crime fighting technology. Moreover, as a longtime Nationally Accredited Sheriff’s Office, it is continually on the forefront of proven evidence-based best practices in the policing profession,” Webre said.

In January, LPSO joined the community in celebrating the opening of the Correctional Complex, which taxpayers opted to fund. The facility is designed to hold lawbreakers accountable, while also having rehabilitation opportunities.

Webre also said he was proud of LPSO’s earning National Accreditation under the watchful eye of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

In 2015, LPSO was re-accredited with excellence, given CALEA’s ‘Gold Standard’ for accreditation.

LPSO’s Transitional Work Program also maintains National Accreditation by the American Correctional Association.

The parish also has long-standing relationships with the school system, keeping campuses and classrooms safe with 23 School Resource Officers/DARE officers assigned to Lafourche Parish schools each day.

LPSO’s public works projects by inmates also help to create a safer Lafourche. The inmates fill sandbags to prevent flooding, help set up for events, keep clean or tear down festivals, parades or community events and also prepare and package nearly 1,500 means a day for the community’s elderly.

Election Day is Oct. 12, 2019.
