AT&T customers in southern Lafourche Parish experienced widespread service outages today – lapses in service that may last another 24 hours, if not longer.

Officials at AT&T confirmed to The Times this afternoon that a faulty tower has caused an outage that’s affecting thousands of customers in Lafourche.

In a release, the company said the problem with the tower has been identified, and work is ongoing.

The release said repair work will continue non-stop until service is restored, but that the problem may not be rectified until late-afternoon or early-evening tomorrow, if not later.

The outage started early Thursday morning, and customers in several parishes have reported shaky service throughout the day, according to AT&T’s Facebook page.

But the lion’s share of the complaints on the business’s page have come from Lafourche, where service remains out on Thursday night.

In the parish, the outage extends from near Larose-Cut Off Middle School on south to the parish border near Grand Isle.

Customers on Grand Isle also say that their service is out.

According to AT&T, the company will make arrangements to compensate customers for the time lost, either by issuing a credit or lowering the next month’s bill.
