Nicholls Cancels Crawfish Day: President Tells of Online Resources

Governor Edwards recently addressed several rumors floating around through text messages and social media.

The National Guard is being deployed to help with sites that have been set up to house persons who are awaiting test results and do not have a place to stay, to help stand up drive-thru testing sites, and to help evaluate structures that may serve as temporary hospitals to support the medical surge we anticipate. The National Guard has NOT been deployed to invoke martial law.

Local governments have the ability to “shelter in place” without approval or direction of the governor. “Shelter in place,” as implemented by other municipalities and states, is not a complete lockdown that requires people to not leave their homes. People are still allowed to go to work, grocery stores, and pharmacies, for example.

There is currently no “shelter in place” or “stay home” order in Lafourche or Terrebonne Parish, nor has a curfew been imposed. This has been confirmed by TPSO, LPSO and Parish Presidents Dove and Chaisson. New Orleans has a “Stay Home” order, but not our area.

Other rumors we have been sent today involve convenience stores and gas stations. According to Parish President Dove, the only businesses to be shut down are those covered by Governor John Bel Edwards’ order: bars, restaurants, gyms, health clubs, and bowling alleys.
