The cost of driving during the 2012 holiday season is slightly higher than one year ago. During the long Thanksgiving weekend the national average pump price for regular unleaded gasoline was listed by AAA as $3.43 per gallon. Premium unleaded averaged $3.75 across the country and diesel fuel was $4.01 per gallon.

One year earlier, travelers on a four-day Thanksgiving trip paid an average $3.32 per gallon for unleaded regular, $3.61 for premium and $3.90 on diesel.

This past weekend, Thanksgiving travelers found prices holding the same, on average, from one week earlier with only diesel posting an increase of one cent.

Prices at the pump were higher during October than November with a national average $3.62 per gallon on regular, $3.95 for premium and $4.10 for diesel.

Nationally, the average highest Thanksgiving Day price on a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline was $4.07 in Hawaii while the lowest pump price for that product was $3.15 in Oklahoma.

Closer to home, Louisiana drivers saw holiday gasoline prices average $3.22 per gallon for regular unleaded, $3.55 for premium grade and $3.81 for diesel.

In Houma the median price on regular unleaded ran at $3.25 per gallon. The highest price found on Thanksgiving Day was $3.39 at the Tunnel Express station, 1400 E. Tunnel, while the lowest price was at Sam’s Club, 2174 Martin Luther King Blvd., at $3.11.

Thibodaux drivers saw a median regular gasoline price of $3.36 per gallon. The most expensive found was at the Conoco station at 1715 St. Mary St., at $3.49 and the least expensive was at Murphy USA, 412 N. Canal St., at $3.24.

In Morgan City, pump prices ranged from $3.29 at the Mobil station, 2009 Allison St., to $3.50 at the Shell station, 7028 La. Highway 182 for a median $3.39 per gallon.

Nationally, retail gasoline prices have fallen steadily since mid-September, according to the AAA. Experts predict gasoline will continue to decline for the remainder of 2012, barring major market moves, lower demand, or economic concerns that impact pump prices.
