Joe Burrow has brought the Heisman Trophy back to Baton Rouge.

His victory came like most of his wins on the field in 2019 – in a landslide.

Burrow routed the competition in taking home the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in New York City.

Burrow secured 841 first-place votes, easily generating more first-place votes than all other candidates for the prized trophy, which is handed each year to college football’s best player.

He is LSU’s first winner of the trophy since Billy Cannon in 1959.

Burrow gave a passionate speech after winning the award, choking up several times while talking about his family, life in an impoverished area in Ohio and also LSU football coach Ed Orgeron.

LSU fans around the state and country celebrated Burrow’s win on social media, offering praise to the beloved LSU quarterback.

“I’m just grateful for the opportunity and it’s a blessing to be here,” Burrow said. “There are three great other options who had incredible seasons as well. I’m so grateful for my journey and everyone’s help along the way.”

“I thought Joe handled everything throughout the Heisman campaign and event with first class,” LSU coach Ed Orgeron added. “He’s done it in a great manner. He’s thanked everyone. It’s the first time I’ve seen him get that emotional. When you saw him up there it was with his heart, and that’s how he plays and that’s what makes him the best player in America.”

Burrow’s Heisman victory was the largest margin of victory in the history of the award.

He secured 93.8 percent of possible points on ballots – the most of any eventual winner.

The runner-up for the award was Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts.
