The Nicholls State University baseball family got bigger on Tuesday with the signing of one of the specialist commitments in the Seth Thibodeaux Era.

The longtime Colonels’ coach announced today that his team signed Gonzales native Jax Roussa, a welcome addition to the Dirty Red Nation now and into the future.

Roussa is not a traditional commitment. He is one of 30,000 patients in the United States living with cystic fibrosis (CF), a disease that is predominantly diagnosed in children by the age of 2.

By sponsoring Draft Days of children with CF, Vertex Pharmaceuticals helps spread awareness for the disease and the life-long, positive effects that Team IMPACT has on the kids.

Team IMPACT is a national non-profit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with local collegiate athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. By now being part of Nicholls’ team, Roussa will attend practices, games, team dinners, events and more.

Thibodeaux said having the special young man on board will be great for the program.

“I’m very proud to have Jax join the Colonel family,” Thibodeaux said. “Our players are so happy to have Jax as well. The smile on his face when he signed was awesome. Jax is definitely an inspiration for our team.”
