The Nicholls State University men’s basketball team is getting some live action this week to prepare for the 2017-18 season.

Oh yeah, the games are being played in one of the most beautiful places in the world, which, of course, always helps.

The Colonels departed Thursday morning for the Bahamas where they will play three games against semi-pro clubs at Sir Kendall Isaac’s Gym in Nassau.

The team posted on social media around noon that they’d arrived safely to the tropical destination.

According to second-year coach Richie Riley, the trip will allow the Colonels the opportunity to mesh before the start of the new season.

Riley said it will also serve as a chemistry-building trip where the team can further unite as one.

“Any time you can take a foreign tour, it is a huge opportunity for your team,” Riley said. “We have a lot of new faces that will be playing together for the first time, so it is certainly a bonus for them to get the chance to compete together. I’m proud of the way that our guys have approached the practices leading up to the tour. They’ve had a business-like approach each day and a commitment to improving.”

The Colonels play their first game of the tour on Friday afternoon against the Bahamas All-Stars. That game begins at 6 p.m.

Nicholls will also play IBA Elite (Sunday at 4 p.m.) and the NPBA All-Stars (Monday at 8 p.m.) to round out the trip.

College basketball teams are allowed international trips once every four years.
