The Nicholls State football team kicks off its season on Saturday with a road date at Kansas State.

In that game, the Colonels will be defending its position as one of the best teams in the entire Football Championship Subdivision.

The Colonels were ranked No. 11 in the Preseason American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll.

That ranking is one spot higher than the No. 12 mark Nicholls earned in the preseason STATS FCS Poll.

Nicholls was ranked No. 14 in the AFCA poll to end last season and moved up 3 spots to start 2019 due to the talented returnees back off last year’s team.

Those returnees will be on display in Saturday’s game – Nicholls’ second attempt to upset a Big 12 team from Kansas.

The Colonels beat Kansas University last year. This year, they attempt to slay the Jayhawks’ rivals, Kansas State.

Kickoff for the game is set for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
