Nicholls State University will put on its first-ever Colonel 5K fundraiser later this month at John L. Guidry Stadium.

The event will be put on by the Nicholls track and cross country teams and it will be held on April 28.

Nicholls track and cross country coach Stefanie Slekis said she’s eager to host the event, calling it something she’s wanted to do since taking the job at Nicholls.

“Hosting a 5K was one of the main events I wanted to implement upon joining Nicholls athletics,” Slekis said. “We have an amazing local running community here in the bayou region. This event will be a great way to have our our local runners, walkers, alumni and supporters get to know our cross country and track and field student-athletes.”

The event will feature a new, flat and fast course around Nicholls’ campus and prizes will be given to the top male and female finishers.

Cost to enter is $25 and interested participants must register by April 22 if they want to guarantee themselves a Colonel 5K t-shirt.

Slekis said support for the event has been good and that Coca-Cola, Mary’s Embroidery, Rotolo’s, Rouses and Sante Fe Cattle Co., have sponsored the event so far.

If anyone else wants to be a sponsor, contact Coach Slekis via email at Stefanie_Slekis@nicholls.edu
