Two Nicholls State University football players are getting a shot to play in the NFL.

Defensive lineman Tevin Lawson signed a rookie free agent contract this week with the Los Angeles Chargers, while defensive back Christian Boutte got an invite to camp with the Oakland Raiders.

Lawson was a transfer player from TCU who played just one season at Nicholls – in 2017.

He finished with 25 tackles, a blocked kick and a fumble recovery for a defense and finished No. 3 in the Southland Conference in yards allowed, points allowed and sacks.

Boutte was a career-long Colonel.

He was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for Nicholls. He posted 23 tackles last season and had a key, late-game interception to help beat Northwestern State.
