Nicholls State University senior quarterback Chase Fourcade was named to a prestigious watch list today – another feather in his cap as his senior season nears.

Fourcade was one of 25 players chosen on the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award Watch List, an award which goes to the top offensive player in the country in the FCS.

The award was first given in 1987 and it’s since been given to some of the most famous names in the sport, including Steve McNair, Tony Romo and others.

It’s easy to see why Fourcade was selected to the list.

He’s the 2018 Southland Conference Player of the Year and one of the best players in the history of the Colonels’ program.

He’s Nicholls’ all-time leading passer and a three-year starter. In two of those seasons, the Colonels have made the FCS Playoffs.

Last year, Fourcade threw for 21 touchdowns and rushed for 13 more with almost 3,000 yards passing and 659 yards rushing.

To win the award, Fourcade will need a huge senior season.

The award is given on Jan 11, 2020 – the week leading up to the 2020 Division I Football Championship Game in Frisco, Texas.

Nicholls begins practices Friday for the upcoming season.
