Houma native Elijah McGuire is now a National Football League champion.

McGuire is a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, who beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl 54 earlier tonight.

The former Vandebilt Catholic High School star signed to Kansas City’s practice squad this past November after being released by the Cleveland Browns.

Although McGuire didn’t get to play on the field tonight, practice squad members commonly receive Super Bowl rings.

The talented running back was drafted by the New York Jets in the 2017 NFL Draft following his time playing for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

This is the first Super Bowl win for longtime NFL head coach Andy Reid and Kansas City’s first championship in 50 years.
