Local fight fans will be pleased this Father’s Day weekend.

Caged Warrior Championships 10 will take place Friday night at the Larose Civic Center – an event which will give several of the area’s top fighters a chance to compete in front of their hometown fans.

The civic center’s doors open at 6 p.m. The fights will start at 8.

Event promoter Justin Verdin said folks will be missing out if they don’t attend the night of action.

“The people want to see all the up and coming local fighters putting on a show,” Verdin said. “They’ve all been working hard for a while and we have 10 good fights for them to see. We love coming to the area and the people love it, too. As a fighter myself, this was one of my favorite places to fight. There aren’t many places that get loud and excited like the people here.”

For fight fans, a heavyweight bout will headline the weekend card.

In the premier bout of the show, heavyweights Josh Metzger and Jeff Ronquille will lock horns – the winner earning the Caged Warrior Championship Title.

Both men are massive.

Metzger stands 6-feet, 6-inches and weighs 290 pounds.

Ronquille is massive, as well. He’s billed at 350 pounds, but appeared to weigh far more last summer when he outlasted Ian Matherne with strikes.

Ronquille is 6-1 on his career – all of his victories coming via knockout or submission. He said after beating Matherne last summer that he fears no man.

“I have a lot to learn, but I will get in there with anyone,” Ronquille said. “I love challenges and I will compete with anyone at any time.”

Verdin thinks the title fight will be fun to see.

“It’s going to be interesting to see,” he said. “It’ll be two big guys moving fast and showing good skills, while coming out of two good gyms. Jeff came to the bayou and beat our local heavyweight Ian Matherne. Since then, he’s won three more fights and is 6-1. He will be tough to beat.”

But the main event isn’t the only reason the card will be worth seeing.

On the undercard, Matherne will be in action, looking to avenge his loss to Ronquille. He will be locking horns with Jacob Richard.

Also featured will be a lightweight bout between Alex Pierce and DeJuan Robinson.

Pierce is local to the area – a South Lafourche graduate and Cut Off native.

He said he can’t wait to fight in front of his family and friends in Larose.

“Fighting in front of them is why I really do it,” Pierce said. “Knowing that they stand behind me in my dreams of fighting in the big leagues one day is just astonishing. They give me that motivational push that I need to get me there.”

Also featured is Macy Breaux – a local female fighter who is quickly rising in the ranks among local fighters.

Tickets will be available at the door, but advanced orders are also available.
