Nicholls linebacker Laryon James was named the Louisiana Sports Writer Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after a dominant performance against Stephen F. Austin this past weekend.
James, a Baton Rouge native, was a force in the win, posting a career-high 10 tackles to help the Colonels open up Southland play with a 48-30 win over the Lumberjacks.
He also recorded an interception in the final minutes to ice the victory.
In addition to the Defensive Player of the Week honor, James and sophomore tailback Julien Gums were both named Honorable Mention Southland Conference Players of the Week.
