Nicholls State University has arguably its biggest game of the season on Saturday.

Luckily for the Colonels, it will be played from the comforts of home – the first home game of the season at John L. Guidry Stadium.

The Colonels will host Sam Houston State on Saturday – a matchup of two Southland Conference powers and playoff hopefuls.

The Colonels enter play with a 1-2 record, but the competition has been stiff: two FBS opponents (Kansas and Tulane) and a Top 25 FCS team (McNeese).

This matchup will be tough, too – a Sam Houston State team which enters play 1-1 on the season. The Bearkats are always an explosive offensive team and a contender for conference and national titles.

Last year, Sam Houston scored more than 60 points on Nicholls and handed them their only lopsided loss of the season.

But during his weekly radio show on Monday, coach Tim Rebowe said the Colonels are recharged, refocused and are ready to take on another tough foe.

Rebowe said the Colonels are not panicking after losing two-straight games. But he added quickly that the team is working hard to get better in practice in anticipation of the storm ahead.

Kickoff for the game is set for 3:05 p.m., and it will be broadcast on ESPN+.
