WEEK 1 SCORES

Central Lafourche 24

Patterson 13

Anfernee Poindexter is worth the price of admission. His kick return for a touchdown secures a season-opening upset for the Trojans over Class 3A powerhouse Patterson, who was without Blue Chip receiver Mykel Jones.

H.L. Bourgeois 28

South Terrebonne 6

The Braves scored on the first play from scrimmage and never looked back, beating the Gators for the second-straight week after also trumping the in-parish rival in the jamboree.

Terrebonne 28

Ellender 6

Coach Gary Hill’s Tigers use a stout defensive performance to trump Ellender in the season-opener to set up a rivalry game between the Tigers and South Terrebonne on Friday night.

St. Charles 31

Thibodaux 0

Thibodaux coach Chris Dugas was less than thrilled with his offense being shut out and manhandled throughout Friday’s game. The Tigers didn’t get into Comets territory once in the season-opening game.

South Lafourche 37

Bonnabel 33

The Tarpons were down 20-0 against Bonnabel, but never faltered in a late-game rally for the win. The Tarpons rushing offense battered the Bruins in the trenches in the second half.

E.D. White 34

Vandebilt 14

Vandebilt’s anniversary party is crushed by longtime rival E.D. White, who used a powerful rushing attack to control the line of scrimmage en route to a second-straight win in the rivalry.

Westminster 10

CCA 7

It was a defensive struggle for the Lions against Westminster on Friday night. CCA’s usually potent rushing offense was grounded, which allowed Westminster to score a road victory.

Highland Baptist 50

Houma Christian 7

The first game of the post-Drake Battaglia era wasn’t good for Houma Christian, who trailed from start-to-finish against Highland Baptist on Friday afternoon.

WEEK 1 BY THE NUMBERS

81: Patterson scored a late touchdown to take a one-point lead over Central Lafourche in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game. But Trojans standout Anfernee Poindexter took the ensuing kickoff 81 yards to the house to clinch a win.

4: South Lafourche turned over the ball four times in the first half of Friday’s game against Bonnabel. The Tarpons cleaned up their act and overcame a 20-0 deficit to score a 37-33 win.

2: South Terrebonne and Thibodaux had two combined regular season losses in all of 2014. After week one, they already have two combined losses with each team going down in week one.

220: In his first game as H.L. Bourgeois starting quarterback, Jude LeCompte shined. The Braves beat South Terrebonne and LeCompte had 220 combined yards, passing and rushing for 100-plus yards to improve to 1-0 on the season.

4: E.D. White quarterback Ben Sposito made the most of his final career game against rival Vandebilt. The senior quarterback rushed for two scores and threw for two more to secure an easy win.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Bronze: E.D. White quarterback Ben Sposito: The most experienced starting quarterback in the Houma-Thibodaux area played like the season veteran that he is on Friday night against Vandebilt. Sposito completed more than 60 percent of his passes, while combining for four touchdowns in a season-opening win.

Silver: The South Lafourche offensive line: The Tarpons offensive line broke Bonnabel’s defense on Friday night. South Lafourche rushed for 400-plus yards in the win, thanks to stout blocking late in the game, which battered the Bruins defense.

Gold: Central Lafourche athlete Anfernee Poindexter: Poindexter is quickly becoming a guy that you can’t miss watching on Friday night. A week after dominating the Trojans jamboree, Poindexter returned a kick for a touchdown to help the Trojans power past Patterson.

The High-Five

1. E.D. White – The Cardinals have a lot of experience back in 2015. That experience paid off on Friday night in a road victory against rival Vandebilt. E.D. White is a sneaky good team that will be a huge factor in how things turn out in the Houma-Thibodaux area.

2. Central Lafourche – The Trojans haven’t ever been this high in our poll, but they’ve earned it. After topping Brusly in the jamboree, Central Lafourche powered past Patterson in what has to be considered a mild upset. Kudos to Coach Menard and his staff on a job well done.

3. South Lafourche – For the first quarter of Friday’s game against Bonnabel, the Tarpons weren’t on this list. But for the final three, things were pretty crisp for South Lafourche, who has a physical offense that will be tough for teams in our local 4A district to deal with.

4. H.L. Bourgeois – The Carey Melvin era got off to a good start on Friday, as the Braves led from start-to-finish in an easy win over South Terrebonne. The first-year coach has given H.L. Bourgeois some swagger, and it’s already paying off.

5. Terrebonne – Terrebonne will round out our high-five after trumping Ellender for a second-straight week. The Tigers are young, but talented. Friday’s meeting with South Terrebonne should be interesting.
