The beast is back!

Cut Off native Macy Breaux defeated Amber Medina via a decision last night at the Bayou Fighting Championships event in Metairie.

The victory marked Breaux’s first time in the cage since June 2018 when she broke her arm – an injury which required surgery, a rod and several months of rehab and recovery.

As the decision was announced and Breaux’s arms were raised in victory, she closed her eyes briefly and soaked it all in with a smile from ear-to-ear. After all the painful months having to sit and watch – finally, she beast is back in the winner’s circle again.

“The feeling is indescribable,” Breaux said. “I was just super happy to be back in there. The feeling of being in there after so long with all of the support was amazing.”

For Breaux, being back in the cage marked the cherry atop a successful recovery from a serious injury.

She sustained the injury – a broken forearm – during a June 30, 2018 bout with Julie Russell. She was forced to retire from that bout and her active amateur career in boxing, MMA and jiujitsu was put on hold.

Breaux said rehabbing was tough, though she stayed active as best she could – given the ailment. Surgery was extensive. Doctors placed a rod in her arm to help the bone get back healthy.

“The recovery process was very long and upsetting at times,” Breaux said. “But I still found a way to train around my injury and had amazing teammates and coaches that helped out.”

Breaux has been training hard for the bout with Medina. She said she made weight pretty easily and had good energy on the night of the fight.

In the bout, Medina tried to work Breaux on the ground. Breaux is a natural boxer, and in that sport, she’s been a Golden Gloves winner in her career.

But she can handle her own on the ground, too, and she proved it on Saturday night.

Medina made attempts to wrestle with Breaux, but those attempts were unsuccessful. Breaux controlled Medina with her power and techniques, scoring enough points on the judges’ cards to secure the decision.

Breaux said boxing is her strength, but added that she’s no longer a one-dimensional fighter. She said that over the past several years, she’s spent countless hours working hard to perfect her skills in every facet of fighting.

“I wanted to box like always, but she had a game plan and that was to not let me box,” Breaux said. “So I was able to dominate and show off my wrestling and jiujitsu. I had her in a few compromised positions and kept top control. Most people see me as a boxer, and I’m happy that I was able to show my skills and well-roundedness.”

But more important than the win was how Breaux felt on Sunday – 24 hours after the bout: injury-free.

Breaux said she felt no residual effects from the arm injury, adding that she “can’t wait” to start preparing for the future.

“I’m ready to be back in the gym Monday,” she said.

For Breaux, she said the successful rehab, recovery and first fight back marks the starting line for what’s going to be a full-fledged race into 2020.

She said she will compete as often as she can in the coming months in MMA, boxing and jiujitsu.

She plans to turn pro in 2020.

“I’m full force moving forward,” Breaux said. “I want to close the year off with as many competitions I can fit in. I have an MMA fight booked for August 31st in Biloxi for an all woman’s event. I also have a boxing match with USA boxing “compete for the streets” which will be in September in Lake Charles, along with a few jiujitsu matches.”
