The Nicholls State University women’s basketball team is going to the dance!

The Colonels won the Southland Conference Tournament for the first time in school history on Sunday, trumping Stephen F. Austin 69-65 in the finals of the tournament.

The Colonels battled and rallied from behind for the second-straight day, trailing by 12 at halftime before roaring out to a huge second-half surge to secure the win.

Raceland native Cassidy Barrios scored 22 points for the Colonels in the win, which punched the school a ticket into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

The Colonels will find out their opponent later.
