LAFAYETTE — Every offense has an off night – especially in a low-scoring game like soccer.

Unfortunately for Vandebilt, their off night came on the biggest game of the season.

The Lady Terriers fell 3-0 to Teurlings Catholic in the Division III State Championship Match – the second-straight season that Vandebilt loses in the final game of the season.

The Lady Terriers had chances, but couldn’t convert, which set up counter opportunities for a Teurlings team that took advantage of what was given with an early-first-half goal, then two other counter strikes in the victory.

Vandebilt coach Philip Amedee congratulated Teurlings on the win, but added that the Lady Terriers just didn’t perform to their usual level throughout the match.

The stats back up the coach’s words.

The Lady Terriers dominated both possession and shots in the first half, outshooting Teurlings 13-2 in the match.

But Vandebilt still trailed 1-0 at the break because of a strike by Julia Colette in the 10th minute, which put her team in front.

The Lady Terriers had tons of chances for an equalizer, but every effort to score was met by a dominant Teurlings defense, which countered everything the Lady Terriers had to offer.

In the second half, the advantage doubled when Emily Sonnier scored on a corner kick to put her team up 2-0 – a goal which came early in the second half.

With the Lady Terriers now in desperation mode, Teurlings struck again a few minutes later on a goal by Camryn Chretein, which sent the match out of reach.
