With one lamp and three wishes, a whole new musical will be brought to life on the stage. The South Louisiana Center for the Arts (SOLA) will present Disney’s Aladdin Jr. at the Houma Municipal Auditorium. 880 Verret St., on July 27-28 at 7 p.m. and on July 29 at 2:00 p.m.

The musical will be performed by just-over-30 young, talented actors, ages 7-14. of SOLA’S 2018 Summer Camp.

“It’s a fun show with lots of singing, dancing, lights and drama” says Heather Dahl, director of the musical.

SOLA’S Aladdin Jr. is based more on the Broadway musical rather than the animated movie. Although it differs. it still will have the classic lead characters such as Aladdin, Genie, Jasmine. Jafar and The Sulton, played by Chloe Hoychick, 13, Emmy Johnson. 14, Lauren Bascle, 14, Luke Thibodaux. 12 and Mason Brewer, 9, respectively. Many of the young, but experienced leads have been featured in SOLA productions for several years now.

“I like how you can just completely throw yourself into this role that’s no t even you at all and completely lose yourself in it.” says Chloe, who has been performing for 9 years, on why she likes being on stage. “It’s really great.”

Since Jury B. the energetic crew has been rehearsing under the guidance of Heather: choreographer. Annette Blanc hard; and vocalist, Nicole Melancon.

“The show is very well-cast, and the directors keep pushing us in a good way,” Emmy says, “They are making the show come together.”

The show will not only feature extraordinary young talent but also professional set design, lighting; and sound. The funds also go to supporting the SOLA program, which educates children in visual and performing arts in South Louisiana in parishes such as Terrebonne, St Mary’s, Lafourche, etc. Heather says it’s a great program for the students, who echo her sentiments.

“At first. I was really nervous,” Mason says on joining the program. Then they started talking to me, and a year later, they are still my best friends “

SOLA, which has been around for about 15 years, puts on two other shows through-out the year, during fall and Spring.

Tickets for this week s upcoming musical are $B for children and $12 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at Bola center.org or at the door before the event.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring your family, do something fun and enjoy quality time together,” Heather Bays.
