Edwis “Brother” Dufrene, Sr., 79, a native of Larose, La., and resident of Lockport, La., died on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.


Mr. Dufrene was a parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic minister for the home-bound. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3054 and a Faithful Navigator of the Kermit Trahan Assembly 1878 Fourth Degree. He enjoyed attending KC functions, gardening, checkin on his cows and mowing the yard. He was a sugarcane farmer and formerly worked at Bollinger Shipyard.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Velma Roussel Dufrene; sons, Edwis Jr. (Myra), Charles, Richard (Melinda) and Ray (Melissa) Dufrene; daughters, Annette (Kirk) Hebert, Ellen Sevin (T.J.) and Sandra (Chet) Doucet; sisters, Barba Champagne and Diane Martinez; brothers, Rudy, Gillis Jr. and Teddy Dufrene; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Burial is at Holy Savior Catholic Church Cemetery in Lockport.
