South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center is hosting its annual summer camp June 6-10 and June 13-17.

Sessions are held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and the $135 per week tuition includes a number of field trips. The camp is open to ages 9 to 12.

According to the center’s executive director, Jonathan Foret, the two sessions – Wetlands Explorer Camp (June 6-10) and Working Coast Camp (June 13-17), include a Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum Scavenger Hunt, as well as tours of the USDA Sugarcane Research Station and T Baker Smith. Participants will tour Wildlife Gardens Swamp, A Cajun Man’s Swamp and Greenwood Alligator Farm, too.

Following each trip, Foret said campers will return to the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum to talk about the experiences and do fun activities.

“We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful and creative staff to develop our program each year,” he said. “I’m always impressed with the new activities they create to provide hands-on education for our students. Some days I think I have just as much fun participating in Swamp Camp as the kids.”

Registration for the camp is on a first-come, first-served basis. Only 30 students will be accepted each week.
