Merry Christmas, Houma-Thibodaux-area wrestling fans.

One of the best brawlers of our generation is scheduled to compete in Elite Championship Wrestling’s upcoming wrestling show.

The wrestling organization announced recently that Dreamer will be competing in its show on Saturday, Dec. 27 at the East Park Recreation Center in Houma.

The former ECW Champion, WWE brawler and hardcore legend will compete in the show, battling in a six-man tag team hardcore match. On Dreamer’s team will be local favorites John Saxon and Stan Sweetan. On the opposite end of the ring will be The Legion’s Gregory – a stable consisting of James, Minotaur and The Nightmare Known as Jeremiah.

Second-row tickets are still available but are going fast.

Anyone interested is asked to call 985-262-9789 or visit www.elitechampionshipwrestling.com.

“We always take pride in bringing some of the best competitors to our promotion to entertain the local crowds,” Elite Championship Wrestling promoter David Pitre Jr. said in an interview earlier this year when asked about his organization’s plans going forward. “If there’s a big name out there that we can bring in, that’s always something that we’re going to be interested in doing.”

In Tommy Dreamer, Elite Championship Wrestling will be getting a guy that wrestling fans around the world will be familiar with.

Dreamer, 43, made his name in his early 20s with Elite Championship Wrestling – a promotion that was hot throughout the 1990s when wrestling was at its peak.

During his multi-year run with ECW, Dreamer did just about everything imaginable for a pro wrestler, traveling the country and wowing hundreds of thousands of fans around the world.

Dreamer won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship belt once and was a three-time ECW Tag Team Champion, teaming with Johnny Gunn, Raven and Masato Tanaka throughout his reigns.

Several years after the promotion folded, Dreamer was named to the 2010 Hardcore Hall of Fame.

After working for ECW, Dreamer continued his wrestling career with the WWE, wrestling for the company from 2001-2010. During his time with the company, he was the Hardcore Champion 14 times, which helped him earn the distinction as one of the kings of hardcore wrestling.

Dreamer also was briefly the ECW Champion for a second time when WWE rebranded its former competitor and placed it under its own umbrella.

Since leaving WWE in 2010, Dreamer has had cups of tea with TNA, but he’s also been active on the Independent circuit, booking him to shows throughout the country.

At the Houma show, Dreamer’s appearance will mark just one match on a night of non-stop action.

In the co-main event of the card, the NWA-Elite Heavyweight Championship title will be on the line when champion Vordell Walker puts his belt on the line against Purple Haze – a local favorite who has flirted with the title in recent months.

Also scheduled to appear are the NWA-Elite Tag Team Champions Frankie Thomas and Ryan Oshun. They are scheduled to defend their titles against the team of Mustang Mike and Americos.
