Terrebonne General | Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center announced today that Rockne Hymel, III, M.D., has joined Terrebonne General | Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center as its newest radiation oncologist. Hymel has been treating various types of cancer patients in the Baton Rouge area for several years.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Hymel, and his expertise, to Houma,” said Phyllis Peoples, president, and CEO of Terrebonne General Health System. “As we continue to be the leading provider for comprehensive cancer care in the Bayou Region, adding a well-respected and patient-focused physician, such as Dr. Hymel, to our team will allow us to expand on our collaborative approach to early detection, pinpoint diagnosis, and individualized treatment.”

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from Louisiana State University, Hymel earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He completed his residency in radiation oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Hymel is board certified in radiation oncology with the American Board of Radiology.

Hymel previously practiced at Ochsner Cancer Center in Baton Rouge.
