The Allstate Sugar Bowl Committee announced last Wednesday the 2012 Gulf Coast Seafood & Tourism Bash will be held in conjunction with the Allstate Sugar Bowl and the Allstate BCS National Football Championship.

The Gulf Coast Seafood & Tourism Bash is a two-week celebration of Gulf Coast seafood, culture and tourism designed to maximize the exceptional amount of exposure the Gulf Coast will receive as it hosts the Sugar Bowl and BCS National Championship during the opening weeks of the New Year.

In addition to the 140,000 people with tickets to the games, it is estimated that another 150,000 fans will go to New Orleans while millions more will watch the games on television.

The Bash will include Gulf Coast seafood at official Sugar Bowl and BCS National Championship galas and pre-game parties, promotional announcements during the games, vacation giveaways to Gulf Coast states including Louisiana, and seafood samplings.

“The Allstate Sugar Bowl is excited to partner with BP to highlight the unrivaled seafood and culture of the Gulf Coast,” Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Paul Hoolahan said. “With college football fans across the country turning their eyes toward New Orleans, there’s no better time to promote the region’s seafood and tourism.”

“We’re working with the Gulf Coast’s seafood and tourism industries to spotlight two of the best things about this unique region,” BP Executive Vice President of Government and Public Affairs Crystal Ashby said. “Together, we want to deliver a clear message that the Gulf’s beaches, restaurants, fishing and attractions provide unsurpassed vacation experiences.”

The Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier bowl games in the country, having hosted 22 national champions, 81 Hall of Fame players, 44 Hall of Fame coaches and 15 Heisman Trophy winners in its 77-year history. The Allstate Sugar Bowl will host the 78th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic on Jan. 3 and the Allstate BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 9.

In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl is involved with various community initiatives through hosting and sponsorships of sporting events, awards and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors over 13,000 student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2 billion into the local economy during the past decade.

BP is involved in this promotion as part of its Gulf Coast economic restoration plan. In the US, BP has approximately $52 billion in assets and approximately 23,000 employees. The company’s main businesses are exploration and production of oil and gas, refining, manufacturing and marketing of oil products and petrochemicals, transportation and marketing of natural gas and alternative energy sources.

With football on the minds of many, the Gulf Coast Seafood and
Tourism Bash will be held this week. The two-week festival will
coincide with the Sugar Bowl and BCS National Championship Game and
will celebrate seafood’s importance to our area.
