Two Nicholls State University football players were arrested this past weekend in separate incidents.

Tight end Brykiethon Mouton, 22, of Lafayette and receiver Dai’Jean Dixon, 20, of Slidell were both arrested and taken to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex.

Mouton was charged with contempt of court and Dixon was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Both have since been released after posting their bond.

Dixon’s bond was $5,050. Mouton’s was $1,025.

Mouton was arrested for contempt of court stemming to a previous citation by the Nicholls Police for driving under suspension.

Dixon was originally stopped for speeding, then officers located marijuana in his possession, leading to the arrest.

It is not yet known what – if any – actions the Nicholls football team will take against the two players.

The Colonels open the 2019 season on Aug. 31 at Kansas State, a season filled with high hopes for the team.

And Dixon and Mouton were both expected to be part of that success.

Dixon was an All-Conference receiver in 2018 for the Colonels, one of the team’s most reliable playmakers on a high-powered offense.

Mouton is an LSU transfer who has the size, speed and physical gifts to help on the field.

But now, both players’ seasons are in question, thanks to the troubled weekend.
