Four suspects are in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after authorities found marijuana and three firearms during what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop.

At around 7:45 p.m. on July 6, deputies with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office’s “POP Squad” conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Jackson Street and Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux.

Authorities made contact with the driver, identifying him as Kendrick Mitchell, 24, of Thibodaux. Deputies determined that he had two active warrants for his arrest and no driver’s license in his possession.

He was immediately taken into custody, while his passengers were identified as Brennan Mitchell Sr., 35, of Labadieville, Brennan Mitchell Jr., 17, and Wilson Mitchell, 21, of Thibodaux.

Authorities on the scene detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Narcotics agents arrived on the scene to assist with the investigation.

Deputies searched the vehicle and located a large bag containing suspected marijuana in several small packages commonly associated with the individual sale of the drug.

Everyone in the vehicle denied knowing the marijuana was inside the vehicle.

Authorities also located a loaded handgun with an extended magazine under the driver’s seat, as well as a second handgun and an AR-15. The firearms were determined to have been in the possession of Kendrick Mitchell, the driver.

All four suspects were taken into custody.

Kendrick Miller is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, no driver’s license and illegal tint. He was also booked on his outstanding warrants for contempt of court. Bond is set at $100,200, and he has been ordered to pay $533 in fines for the contempt charges.

The other three suspects were each charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Brennan Mitchell Sr. and Wilson Mitchell’s bonds are set at $25,000.

Brennan Mitchell Jr.’s bond is set at $10,000.
