A 50-year-old Raceland man is in the custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, charged in connection with a shooting death in Raceland.

Dontrell Bryant, 50, was arrested on Tuesday for his alleged role in a shooting incident involving Timon Nash, 38, of Raceland, who later died in a second shooting incident the next day.

Authorities say that they discovered that just after 12 a.m. on Aug. 24, Bryant approached Nash and had a verbal altercation with him. He then allegedly pulled a gun on him and fired several shots at Nash, striking him once in the right forearm. The incident was originally unreported.

On the following day, just after 2 a.m., authorities responded again to a shooting in Raceland – this one in the 200 block of Williams Street in which Nash was again the victim. This time, he was killed.

Investigating authorities developed Bryant as the suspect in the first shooting and obtained a warrant for his arrest. The suspect turned himself in on Tuesday and was booked on charges of attempted second-degree murder.

Bond has been set at $150,000.

Authorities say an investigation into the fatal shooting is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers Bayou Region at 1-800-743-7433. Tips which lead to an arrest may net a $1,000 cash reward.
