The Houma Police Department, Louisiana State Police and Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an officer involved shooting that occurred today on the Eastside of Houma.

Shortly after 2 p.m., HPD officers were in the area of West Street conducting damage assessments as a result of Hurricane Barry. While doing so, officers heard several shots, including some that were extremely close, whizzing by them.

Officers observed a burgundy sedan heading in their direction shooting, which caused officers to return fire at the vehicle.

During the investigation, HPD has learned that a male subject was dropped off at the hospital with a gunshot wound. With the two incidents possibly being related, HPD turned over the situation to the State Police, who will be conducting further investigation into this matter.

State Police will release further information as it develops.
