A 20-year-old Chackbay man is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly had sexual contact with a teenage girl.

On Dec. 19, juvenile detectives started looking for a runaway teenage girl in the Thibodaux area.

Detectives were first alerted in the early-morning hours and they found the teen by that afternoon. Through investigation, detectives learned that Jace Wempren, 20, of Chackbay, had been with the juvenile while she was missing.

On Dec. 26, detectives met with Wempren and questioned him about his involvement in the incident.

The suspect allegedly told detectives that he knew the victim was an underage teen and that he assisted her in running away from her home on Dec. 19 and also to inappropriate sexual contact with her on that date. He also admitted to picking the juvenile up from school on several occasions without the permission of her parents and had sexual contact with her on multiple occasions.

Wempren was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He is charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Bond is set at $10,500.

The child was charged as a runaway and placed at the Lafourche Parish Juvenile Justice Facility.
