A convicted drug dealer was sentenced to 35 years in prison yesterday after pleading guilty to multiple drug charges.

Juanches Shelby, 40, of Cut Off, pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute heroin.

Shelby, who was on parole, was sentenced to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections as a result of the negotiated plea accepted by the Honorable F. Hugh Larose.

His 20-year sentence will be served consecutively with his 15-year parole violation, which brings his combined sentence to 35 years.

The suspect was scheduled for trial on this coming Monday, but entered the plea instead.

Shelby, known to associates as "Killa" was caught after selling illegal narcotics to an informant working with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Froce.

After obtaining a search warrant, the home where Shelby was living was searched and a cache of illegal drugs were found.

The suspect was arrested the same day.

“This plea is the result of a long and thorough investigation conducted on a well-known drug offender by the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force,” said Assistant District Attorney Shaun George, who prosecuted the case. “Dealing drugs in Lafourche parish is not and will not be tolerated – not by us, not by law enforcement, and not by the people of this parish.”

Juanches Shelby will begin serving his combined 35 year sentence immediately.
