A Thibodaux fugitive is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly struck a deputies’ vehicle in an effort to flee the scene during a stop.

On Monday, deputies patrolling the northern part of the parish observed Norman Robinson Jr., 35, of Thibodaux, traveling in a vehicle.

Knowing Robinson had several warrants for his arrest, deputies conducted a traffic stop on the suspect near the intersection of Forty Arpent Road and St. Patrick Street.

Authorities said Robinson initially stopped his vehicle, but then shifted it into reverse, striking the patrol deputy’s unit.

Immediately after, the suspect allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

Authorities said Robinson was searched during the arrest, and he was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on active warrants for aggravated assault with a firearm and five counts of contempt of court.

For the traffic stop incident, he is also charged with reckless operation with accident, resisting an officer and improper vehicle equipment (he didn’t have a side mirror).

Robinson is held on a $28,200 bond and he’s been ordered to pay more than $2,000 in fines and costs to four of the contempt of court warrants.

LSPO says the suspect’s aggravated assault warrant stems back to February 2017 when he allegedly pointed a gun at a family member following an argument.
