A 34-year-old Golden Meadow man is in custody of authorities after he allegedly struck a woman and children, then doused the woman with gas.

On Sunday, Golden Meadow Police Officers were called to a home off La. Highway 1 near Leonard Street in reference to a call of a domestic incident.

Officers made contact with a woman who had gas on her clothing and in her hair and she had small children with her when officers arrived.

Officers learned the woman was having a verbal altercation with Murray Hebert Jr., 34, of Golden Meadow, when he allegedly poured gas on her.

The woman then went inside the residence, but Hebert allegedly followed her in and punched her multiple times in the head.

The women’s children attempted to intervene and Hebert allegedly punched each of them, as well.

Officers said they learned of another incident earlier in the day in which Hebert and the victim had a verbal altercation which ended in the suspect allegedly grabbing the victim around the throat, causing her to have trouble breathing.

The victim was taken to Our Lady of the Sea General Hospital for treatment and officers learned that Hebert was in possession of a firearm, which officers located and secured inside the residence.

Hebert was not on the scene at the time of officers’ arrival.

At around 10:30 p.m. that night, LPSO deputies learned that Hebert was seen on Joan Ann Drive in Cut Off.

As deputies arrived on the scene, they immediately took him into custody.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was in possession of four small bags containing 38 hydrocodone pills.

Hebert was taken to the Lafourche Parish Jail – booked with domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse battery involving strangulation, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, cruelty to juveniles with force or violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone.

He also was booked on an outstanding warrant for simple criminal damage to property.

No bond has been set yet.
