Lafourche Parish District Attorney Kristine Russell announced that a Golden Meadow man pled guilty as charged to two counts of 2nd Degree Cruelty to Juveniles on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Dustin Naquin, 32, was set to begin trial this week. As the jury selection process was underway, Naquin’s attorney advised the Honorable Christopher Boudreaux that Naquin wished to change his plea to guilty.

The Honorable Christopher Boudreaux set Naquin’s sentencing date for May 11, 2022.

Dustin Naquin, who will remain in law enforcement custody without bail, faces up to 40 years per count with the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Since there are still pending charges against the co-defendant in this case, we will reserve any further comment until after that too has been adjudicated.

On Oct. 22, 2019, LPSO detectives were called to investigate Dustin Naquin, 29 at the time, and Jasmine Bouvier, 24 at the time, after they brought a preschool-aged child to the hospital with injuries consistent with recurring child abuse.

The child was diagnosed with a broken arm and was suffering from bleeding in two spots on the brain. The child also had multiple bruises and other injuries across his entire body. The child remains in the hospital in critical, but stable condition.

During questioning, the couple admitted to striking the child on his buttocks with a makeshift wooden paddle, but they claimed the other injuries were from accidents around the house.

The couple said they had knowledge of the child’s broken arm due to one of the accidents, but did not seek medical treatment. Investigators did not find the injuries to be consistent with the couple’s accounts, so arrest warrants were obtained.
