A 34-year-old suspect is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after leading officers on a high-speed chase.

On Oct. 7, officers were called to a house in Raceland in reference to a complaint of a battery.

Upon arrival, authorities learned that Michael Ledet, 34, had entered the home of elderly victims, allegedly knocking down a door and demanding that they turn over the keys to their vehicle.

Authorities said an altercation ensued and Ledet allegedly struck the victims repeatedly until he got the keys. Both victims had multiple lacerations and bruises.

Authorities got details about the vehicle from the victims and eventually spotted Ledet driving it on La. Highway 316 in Gray, which led for an attempt at a traffic stop.

But Ledet allegedly refused to comply and a pursuit followed where Ledet continued to evade officers driving eastbound on Highway 90.

The chase continued as Ledet turned south on La. Highway 1, continuing to Lockport where he allegedly weaved his way through several streets before turning back onto Highway 1 heading north.

Authorities clocked Ledet at more than 100 mph at times during the pursuit and he allegedly served off the road several times nearly striking law enforcement officers.

He was stopped in Raceland by a spike strip, which led to officers taking Ledet into custody.

The suspect is charged with second degree battery, simple battery of the infirmed, four counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer, aggravated flight from an officer, theft, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, theft of a motor vehicle and violation of a stop sign.

He is held on a $112,100 bond.
