The Houma Police Department received several reports of a phone scam where subjects posing as police officers are attempting to extort money from them.

These individuals are attempting to convince the victims that they have a warrant for their arrest and they must pay a certain amount of money or face being arrested.

The proper procedure for someone to pay a fine would be at Houma City Court or the Courthouse.

A fine will never be paid directly to a police officer as this is not proper procedure and the Houma Police Department does not collect fines.

We would encourage everyone to share this information and be cautious of these phone scams as they are constantly changing their efforts to victimize the citizens of Terrebonne Parish.
