Lockport Chief of Police David Harrelson, Jr. announced the arrest of a Lockport woman animal cruelty and drug law violation. Destinee Lyn Griffin, age 25, was arrested Thursday morning following the investigation.

At around 11:33AM on December 14, 2021, Officers with the Lockport Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Catherine Street in reference to an animal cruelty complaint. During the course of the investigation, Officers gathered evidence that Ms. Griffin allowed her pet dog to become severely malnourished and to be kept in a kennel covered in urine and feces. During the time of the investigation, Officers were unable to place Ms. Griffin under arrest, and an arrest warrant was filed in reference to the incident.

At around 10:04AM on March 17, 2022, Officers observed Ms. Griffin riding a bicycle within the jurisdiction of the Lockport Police Department. At this time, Ms. Griffin was placed under arrest for the arrest warrant obtained. During a search of Ms. Griffin for Officer safety, Officers located a prescription bottle containing pills that Ms. Griffin did not have a valid prescription to possess.

Ms. Griffin was arrested and booked accordingly into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. She was charged with Illegal Possession of Prescription Narcotics (Felony). Ms. Griffin was also booked accordingly on an arrest warrant for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals (Felony), as well as additional Contempt of Court warrants for the 17th Judicial District Court and Lockport Municipal Court. Her bond was set at $21,600.00.
