Sex offender faces additional charges

A resident called the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office this morning regarding a cat being shot on the 200 block of Orange Street in Dulac, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter reports.
The caller said that her two sons witnessed a neighbor shoot a gray cat named Mimi from his back porch with a rifle.
After interviewing the witnesses, the responding deputy also talked to the suspect, 26-year-old Derrick Wilton Lacoste, who was in possession of a .22 caliber rifle – the type described by the witnesses.
Lacoste was arrested and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he was booked for aggravated cruelty to animals and illegal use of a weapon.
After being alerted by TPSO deputies, Terrebonne Parish Animal Control personnel arrived on scene and transported the animal to the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter.
A veterinarian at the facility then performed emergency surgery on the feline to remove the spleen and repair the intestines, said Valerie Robinson, manager of the shelter.
Robinson said the cat did make it through the surgery but is still in critical condition.
