A man was killed in a shooting in Houma on Thursday night.

Shortly before 11 p.m., police responded to a reported shooting on the 900 block of Barataria Avenue,  Lt. Travis Theriot with the Houma Police Department told the Times.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, he said.

The investigation is in the early stages, Theriot said.

Chief Dana Tymone Coleman released the following statement:

“This recent homicide is in its infant stages and our detectives are working diligently to connect the dots to outline what led up to this incident. Regardless of what conflict one may have with another, this is NOT the way we are supposed to exit this world. Parents have lost sons, kids have lost fathers and I can go on and on. Our community needs much prayer right now in the midst of everything it’s facing.”
