A speeding stop led the Houma Police Department to a sizable drug arrest.
On July 8 at around 7:22 p.m., officers observed a grey Chevy Cruz traveling east over the Main Street overpass at a speed over the limit.
The officer then conducted a traffic stop on Main Street near the intersection of Myrtle Street and made contact with the driver, a 23-year-old female.
As the officer proceeded through the stop, he contacted the vehicle’s passengers, identifying them as Carlton Cosey, 37, and Terrell Patterson, 25.
When initial contact was made with Cosey, he allegedly provided a false name.
When his original identity was learned, he allegedly attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody shortly after without incident.
At the time of his arrest, Cosey was found to be in possession of Gabapentin, Cyclobenzprine Hydrochloride and Heroin.
The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear for the original charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal use of a weapon.
When officers made contact with Patterson, he was found to be in possession of a firearm which he had concealed within the vehicle at his feet. Officers recovered the weapon and found it to be a Glock .40-caliber.
A further search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a second Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun that had been converted to a fully automatic. As officers continued to search the vehicle, they located five pints of Promethazine Syrup that totaled 473 mL and they also recovered $467 in cash.
Cosey was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for charges of possession of heroin, possession of a legend drug without a prescription, resisting an officer and the outstanding warrant.
Patterson was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for unlawful handling of machine guns, possession of a firearm while in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, transactions involving proceeds from CDS activity and possession of a legend drug without a prescription.
The driver was issued a citation for going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.
