A Houma man is in custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly choked his child.

On Wednesday night at approximately 10:50 p.m., TPSO deputies were called to 3602 Fallon Drive in Houma in reference to a complaint regarding cruelty to a juvenile.

Authorities on the scene said they learned through investigation that an 8-year-old boy had allegedly been abused by his father. TPSO says the boy suffered injuries to his neck from being choked, and detectives said they learned the pressure the father allegedly exerted was so strong that the child had a hard time breathing during the incident.

Authorities said they also observed cuts around the child’s wrist from tie wraps and that the boy had a bruise to his shoulder and a cut to his lip, which they say was from being punched.

Authorities identified the father as Alvin John Kelly, 27, of 217 Hacienda Drive, Houma.

He was arrested and taken into custody for cruelty to a juvenile.

He’s held on a $5,000 bond.
