A 52-year-old Houma native is in custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly attempted to abduct a 12-year-old female.

Yesterday morning at about 7:45 a.m., deputies were called to Blue Guidry Street in the Dularge community in reference to an attempted abduction of a child.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that a victim observed the suspect, Jerry Wayne Anderson, 52, of 188 Melvin Court, Houma, digging through some junk on their property. Upon sight of the man, she asked him to leave.

But Anderson refused and allegedly grabbed the child by the arm and attempted leave with her. She then pulled away and ran to a relatives’ residence.

Anderson then allegedly started banging loudly on the door of that residence and was heard by both the victim and witnesses.

After no one opened the door, Anderson allegedly left the scene in a red pick-up truck.

TPSO deputies patrolled the area and located the red truck matching the description in the driveway of 505 Braddock Drive.

It was later determined that Anderson owns the camper trailer on the property.

TPSO got information that Anderson parked his truck and was last seen running through the neighborhood. Authorities searched the area on foot and located Anderson hiding in someone’s shed in the corner of Brier Drive and Overton Drive.

He was arrested for criminal trespassing and attempted kidnapping.

Anderson remains in jail on a $25,000 bond.
